Find A Destinations Career Academy Near You
Destinations Career Academies are tuition-free online public high schools that give you a personalized education experience to prepare you for success in today's high-skilled careers. In addition to core high school academic courses, you'll take a range of career-focused electives in the field of your choice.* This approach gives you the opportunity to explore areas of interest and to prepare for your next step in life—whether that's going to college or directly to the workforce.
WHAT WE OFFER
It's never too soon to figure out where you're headed and how you'll get there. Destinations Career Academies offer you the chance to jump-start your future with relevant courses, NCRC-certification exam prep, career-focused clubs, internship support, and more.
Experience: Destinations is more than just career-focused courses, it's a program. You won't simply learn technical skills, such as how to calculate profit or that the ankle bone isn't connected to the shin bone, but you'll be given opportunities to apply your newfound knowledge to real-world situations through career technical service organizations (CTSOs) and school projects.
Exploration: We want you to explore. You may already know exactly what you want to do, but most likely you don't. Or you may change your mind several times before graduation. We not only get that, we expect it. Destinations gives you the freedom to try out the options and discover your true passion while you're still in high school.
Options: Our program is designed around making sure that you have as many options at graduation as possible—whether you're going right into the workforce, on to additional training, or to college. Georgetown University Center on Education and Workforce predicts that, by 2020, 65 percent of jobs will require postsecondary education. Destinations allows you to explore your options and find your niche, so you'll be able to make an informed plan for your future.
Credentials/Certifications: Credentials and certifications can be the difference when employers are making a hiring decision. They show that you've demonstrated a level of competence and skill that businesses agree is important to them. They can also set you apart from the crowd if you're applying to college. Destinations is designed to prepare you for at least one career credential or certification. Some, such as Microsoft® Office credentials or the ACT National Career Readiness Certificate, can be earned in just one semester. We'll also help you prepare now to take industry certification exams after graduation.
*Career fields and pathways vary by school. Check with your school for its current offerings.
Our model was built using research-based education best practices and program design. Coursework is project based, which creates a similar environment to what you'll experience on the job. You'll also be able to learn the professional skills and prepare to earn the certifications you'll need to succeed in the modern work environment. Our courses and collaboration space are mostly online, so learning can take place wherever you have an internet connection. You'll participate in live, teacher-led online sessions called Class Connects, where you'll also interact with other students. You'll access courses from the Online High School platform, which features easy-to-read schedules, the curriculum, and assignments—all in one place.
