Inspired by nurses, CODCA student pursues nursing career
Originally aired on KRDO-TV - December 13, 2020
Raina Ward, a student from rural Southern Colorado, has been inspired by frontline healthcare workers fighting the pandemic. Now, she's working to become a nurse as quickly as possible.
After her freshman year at high school, the Saguache resident decided she wanted a more focused learning experience that would help prepare her for the future. She's enrolled in Destinations Career Academy of Colorado (CODCA), a career-focused online public school.
Ward says she's decided to follow in her mom's footsteps to become a nurse while taking pharmacy tech, EMT training, and anatomy classes. Ward also works night shifts at a local hospital to get hands-on experience.
The student is applying for the CSU Pueblo Nursing Program and hopes to work in nephrology.
